Commenting on the 1% rise in tube fares Labour London Assembly Member for City and East, John Biggs AM said:
“For eight years Boris has inflicted annual fare rises on commuters, forcing them to spend more and more of their income travelling to work.
“This latest fares hike, only months before Boris leaves office, is a painful parting blow and is effectively an unaffordable tax on work.
“Londoners are crying out for the respite that a fares freeze would provide. One thing is for sure, the next Mayor cannot continue Boris Johnson’s yearly tradition of fare hikes.
“Whilst the re-zoning of Stratford, West Ham and Canning Town and some DLR stations is welcome, the truth is it does very little to undo the impact of the yearly fare rises of Johnson’s mayoralty.”
