A Youth Service Fit for Purpose

Tower Hamlets Council is moving forward with an interim youth services model to ensure that high quality services continue to be delivered.

Labour Mayor John Biggs and Cabinet Member Councillor Rachael Saunders ordered a review into the youth service which uncovered serious shortcomings.

The new interim model will ensure that services continue to be delivered while the new long-term model is developed.

Mayor John Biggs said: “We have reviewed the operation of the youth service and are taking interim steps to resolve failings that needed immediate attention. It would have been reckless not to act. The interim model will meet the needs of our young people and offer consistent delivery of a range of high-quality services, six days a week, filling gaps and better reaching everyone.  This will sit alongside a number of other providers and our service will remain one of the biggest in the UK.

“We will finish the review in the summer and then make proposals for the future, consulting with the community and in particular listening to the young people of the borough, including our young mayor and youth forum. It is they who the service is there for.”
