Join my campaign to oppose the proposed Bishopsgate Goodsyard Development
Last year, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson removed the right of Hackney and Tower Hamlets to decide on the Bishopsgate Goodsyard development. If he approves the current proposal, a faceless mega-complex of luxury towers of up to 46 storeys would change the area forever and cast giant shadows over existing communities. To make matters worse, no more than 10% affordable housing has been proposed (despite Tower Hamlets Council suggesting that 49% affordable housing is viable) with most homes priced way beyond the means of the vast majority of Londoners.
We the undersigned:
Believe that the current proposed development fails to meet planning rules and will cause substantial harm to the local area as well as providing a woefully inadequate number of affordable homes;
Support the More Light More Power campaign which aims to promote inspired and innovative development of the Goodsyard;
Support Labour local MPs, Mayor John Biggs (Tower Hamlets) and Mayor Jules Pipe (Hackney) and local councillors in opposing the current proposed development; and
Believe that the decision of London Mayor Boris Johnson to call-in the proposal rides roughshod over local democratic decision-making.
