Mayor Biggs Responds to General Election Announcement

Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement of an early general election, the Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said:

"In Tower Hamlets, we’ve seen the positive difference that Labour can make.

"But we've also seen the true damage that Tory Party policies mean. The Tory Government has stripped nearly £60m from our council budget over the next three years and I'm deeply concerned about what new cuts the Conservatives plan to impose in the near future.

"I have no doubt that our Labour MPs Rushanara Ali and Jim Fitzpatrick are best placed to protect our communities and to stand up for residents. We need Labour values and a Labour voice in the Town Hall, City Hall and Parliament to protect our residents and speak up for the borough.

"Vote Labour on 8th of June to make sure that strong Labour voice can continue to stand up for Tower Hamlets."
