GP surgery closures debated in Parliament

Jim Fitzpatrick MP has called on the Government in a Parliamentary debate to think again on planned changes to NHS funding which has directly threatened five GP surgeries in the borough with closure.

The MP for Poplar and Limehouse used a Westminster Hall debate to call for a u-turn on the Government’s plans to change GP funding which will reduce overall support for 98 surgeries across the country – including 5 in Tower Hamlets.

Jim Fitzpatrick MP said:

“Thousands are at risk of losing their local GP surgery if these reforms go through. I used today’s debate to directly question the government on why they want to take money from one of the most deprived boroughs in the country without justification and transparency.

We need answers before any decision is made and I’ll continue to campaign against any proposals which are going to lengthen waiting lists, shutdown good surgeries and bring down resident’s standard of healthcare.”
