Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar and Limehouse, has called on the Government to change direction following the Queen’s Speech.

During a Parliamentary debate on Friday Mr Fitzpatrick said a stubbornly high unemployment rate, a rapidly increasing cost of living and a housing crisis is further evidence of a government which is failing Tower Hamlets.

Jim Fitzpatrick MP said: “People in my constituency see a Government without direction and a country where things are getting worse not better.

“The economy is flat-lining, wages are down 13% in Tower Hamlets since 2008 and unemployment is still too high. I want the long term unemployed in work and not on benefits, better regulation of housing and more of it and help for families who are feeling the pinch.

This will be a lost decade without a change. We need a new direction, we need new policies and, in reality, we need a new Government.”
