One East End: Building a Better Future Go to National Site

Labour respond to report into sale of Poplar Town Hall‏

Responding to the report into the sale of Poplar Town Hall by Tower Hamlets Council, Cllr Rachael Saunders, Leader of the Labour Group, said:

“The report into the sale of Poplar Town Hall by Tower Hamlets council that has been published today raises a number of areas of concern.  The overview and scrutiny committee meeting on the 22nd July will seek to further establish the facts of what happened, and will then report to Full Council.

Poplar Town Hall is the place where George Lansbury led the Poplar rates rebellion, and is one of the sites of the east end suffragettes campaign for votes for women.  We will do all we can to get to the bottom of how the council and the Mayor have treated this east end jewel”.
