Panorama shows why Tower Hamlets deserves a different kind of Mayor

Commenting after serious allegations concerning the conduct of Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman on national television tonight, John Biggs, Labour’s candidate in the 22nd May election for a new Mayor said:

"The BBC programme demonstrates that the voters of our Borough have a clear choice on 22nd May.

"I trust they will decide that Tower Hamlets needs a different kind of Mayor who will do things differently and put our Borough in the national limelight for the right reasons.

“That's why I'm working hard for every vote to put openness and transparency first so we can deliver a better future for all communities across Tower Hamlets."

A spokesperson for London Labour Party said:

Panorama has raised some extremely serious questions about how Lutfur Rahman runs Tower Hamlets Council."

"But while the allegations uncovered by the BBC are deeply shocking and damaging, they are sadly no great surprise.

"Thanks to Lutfur Rahman's actions, Tower Hamlets is once again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Tower Hamlets deserves better."
