Tower Hamlets Council Cuts Police Funding

Tower Hamlets Labour Group has discovered figures that show there will be a decline in Council funding for police officers – despite Lutfur Rahman’s promise to protect frontline services.

Cllr Rachael Saunders, Leader of Tower Hamlets Labour Group, said:

“Lutfur Rahman promised to protect our frontline services. He has failed. Just like Tory Boris Johnson, he is cutting the number of police officers on our streets. From the beginning of January 2016, the number of Council funded police officers on the beat will fall to just 16 – a 36% reduction.  He needs to be open and honest with residents about his damaging cuts.”

Cllr Ayas Miah, Labour Group Budget Spokesperson, said:

“Labour is working hard to put together a sensible budget amendment to protect our frontline services. When full council meets at the end of this month to set the budget, Labour will present a clear set of fair, balanced proposals to support our borough and its residents.”
