Bethnal Green North

Bethnal Green North is bounded to the North by the Regents Canal and to the South by Bethnal Green Road and Old Ford Road.  The main housing estates in the area include the Teesdale, Mansford, St. Peters, Park View, Wellington, Approach and Dinmont estates.  The eastern end of the ward borders Victoria Park.

Bethnal Green South

Bethnal Green South covers an areas bordered by Bethnal Green Road to the north Mile End Road to the south, Vallance Road to the west and Globe Road to the east.  Major residential areas include the Bancroft, Collingwood and Cleveland estates.  The ward is also home to Bethnal Green Gardens.

Bow East

Bow East sits in very north east of Tower Hamlets and borders Hackney to the north and Newham to the east.  The A11 runs north to south on the eastern side of the LAP and the Bow Road runs to the south. The area has good access to Victoria Park on its northern border.  Fish Island in is traditionally an area for light industrial business.

Bow West

Bow West sits towards the north east of Tower Hamlets and borders Hackney to the north.  The Bow Road (A102) runs to the east and west on its southerly border. The area has good access to two major open green spaces in the borough - Victoria Park on its northern border and Mile End Park to the west.

Bromley-by-Bow

Bromley-by Bow covers an area to the east of the borough, south of Bow Road, with the Blackwall Tunnel approach to the east and the Limehouse cut to the south.  Major residential areas include the Coventry Cross, Lincoln, Devons and St. Andrew’s estates.  Local landmarks include Kingsley Hall.

East India and Lansbury

East India and Lansbury has three main residential areas, Brownfield, Teviot and Aberfeldy. The housing stock includes Balfron Tower, designed by iconic architect Erno Goldfinger. The main shopping area is Chrisp Street Market.  The ward is dominated by two major roads, East India Dock Road to the south and the A12 Blackwall Tunnel Approach.

Limehouse

Limehouse ward covers the stretch of the river by Limehouse Basin and as well as the basin and the Regent’s Canal and Limehouse Cut.  Major residential areas include the Pennyfields, Locksley and Lansbury estates as well as the area around Narrow Street.  The ward is also home to the main site of Tower Hamlets College, the major local further education provider.

Mile End East

Mile End East is bounded on the West by the Regents Canal and to the north by Mile End/Bow Road. The main housing areas in the ward are the Burdett, Leopold, Bede, Eric, Treby and British estates. The ward has extensive open space with one of the borough’s major park, Mile End Park as well as Tower Hamlets Cemetery.

Mile End and Globe Town

Mile End and Globe Town is in the centre of Tower Hamlets and major residential areas include the Cranbrook and Digby Greenways estates as well as the northern part of the Ocean estate.  The ward also includes the main campus of Queen Mary, University of London.

St. Dunstan’s and Stepney Green

St. Dunstan’s and Stepney Green is in the centre of Tower Hamlets, bounded by Commercial Road in the south and by Mile End Road in the north.  Major residential areas include the Ocean, Exmouth and Limehouse Fields estates.  The centre of the ward features Stepney Gardens and Stepping Stones City Farm.

St. Katharine’s and Wapping

St. Katharine’s and Wapping is the most south-westerly of the wards that make up Tower Hamlets.  With a long river frontage to the south and Whitechapel to the north, the areas main estates include Royal Mint, Wapping, St. George’s and South Quay.  The ward is also home to the Tower of London for which the whole borough is named.

Spitalfields and Banglatown

Spitalfields and Banglatown is at the western end of Tower Hamlets and covers the area between Bishopsgate and Vallance Road.  Intersected by Brick Lane, the wards major residential areas include the Chicksand, Spitalfields, Holland and Brune estates.  The area is also home to Spitalfields Market and Toynbee Hall.

Weavers

Weavers is the most north-westerly of the wards that make up Tower Hamlets.  Bounded by Boundary Street to the west and by Hackney Road to the north the ward includes the northern end of Brick Lane.  Major residential areas include the Dorset, Jesus Green and Turin estates.  The ward also includes the famous Colombia Road.
